The Shanghai Community
Waterlines operates primarily online and therefore welcomes divers from anywhere. However, we are based in Shanghai, and have the objective of providing the fullest range of services to local divers.
We believe it is wise you get your dive certification before going on a dive trip (especially for the Open Water and Rescue courses). Once you have completed at least the theory and confined water sessions, you are ready to go to the open water to make the best out of your vacation.
Just as any of the destinations we promote, we have carefully evaluated our Shanghai-based partner and have dived with them many times.
The dive operator, a Padi and Naui dive center, is located near Gubei and:
- provides the full range of regular and specialty dive courses as well as Emergency First Response
- is comprised of both Chinese and expatriates certified instructors
- can teach in English, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Japanese, French and German
Learning materials and the full set of equipment (Scubapro BCDs and regulators, 12 liters aluminum tanks) are provided. Transportation to/from the swimming pool is included.
The typical entry level training course requires one full weekend for the Theory and the Confined Water sessions, and another weekend for the Open Water session. This session is required to finish the course and obtain your certification. You may chose to complete your training with our Shanghai-based partner, over a 2 nights/5 dives/2 days weekend at Qian Dao lake. Alternatively, you can complete the course at any Padi/Naui facility in the world.
Medical Clearance for Scuba Diving:
Waterlines and the Shanghai Hyperbaric Treatment Center are working together to enhance dive safety. We will be happy to orient Waterlines’ divers to obtain their medical clearance for scuba diving in Shanghai, with experts in hyperbaric medicine, for only RMB 500 (assuming, which we hope and is usually the case, no additional analysis is required). Service is provided both in English and in Chinese.
